Abstract

This article aims to synthesize the historiography of the History of the Present Time, considering the contributions made in previous decades to contribute to its definition. To this end, the origins of the term and its institutionalization process will be examined. It will also analyze the various definitions of the Present Time and, finally, it will explore the challenges and opportunities posed by the digital era.

Author Biography

  • Juan Manuel Velázquez Díaz

    Juan Manuel Velázquez Díaz holds a degree in History from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), where he has also been a research assistant, as well as a Master’s degree in Avanced Studies and Research in History (Societies, Powers and Identities) at the University of Salamanca (Spain). He was awarded the FormARTE grant at the General Archive of Simancas (Spain). He is currently working for his PhD in the doctoral program “Education in the Knowledge Society” at the aforementioned university, where he has been taken part of the research staff in training (P.I.F.) between 2021 and 2025, and is also a member of the research team in the project “The Spanish health system and ‘rare’ diseases (1950-2019): Professionals and Patiens, research and care” (PID2021-12019NB-I00).
