Historiadores paraguayos al servicio de la Patria (stronista):el caso del Consejo Nacional Asesor de Límites, 1963-1989

Abstract

Recent works on the careers of leading Paraguayan historians during the 35 years of Alfredo Stroessner’s regime (1954-1989) questions their seemingly neutral role in relation to Stroessner’s cultural policies. This article expands on this questioning to present these historians not only as cultural collaborators through their advice on historical matters and the organization and development of national commemorations, but also as officials of the regime in their role as advisors to an organization created by decree by Stroessner himself, the National Advisory Council on Boundaries, which was active from 1963 until the end of the dictatorship.

    Profesor de Enseñanza Media y Superior en Historia, recibido en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, y maestrando en Historia Intelectual por la Universidad Nacional de Quilmes. Autor de “Agapito Valiente. Stroessner kyhyjeha. Reconstruyendo la vida de Arturo López Areco” (Arandurã, 2019), Super Omnia Veritas. La Academia Paraguaya de la Historia y la dictadura de Stroessner (Arandurã, 2025, en prensa) y compilador de las Obras Completas de Lincoln Silva (Arandurã, 2021). Sus líneas de investigación actuales se centran en las trayectorias de los historiadores paraguayos bajo el régimen stronista y en la circulación del hispanismo nacionalcatólico en aquel campo historiográfico.

    Professor of Secondary and Higher Education in History, graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Intellectual History at the National University of Quilmes. Author of Agapito Valiente. Stroessner kyhyjeha. Reconstruyendo la vida de Arturo López Areco (Arandurã, 2019), Super Omnia Veritas. La Academia Paraguaya de la Historia y la dictadura de Stroessner (Arandurã, 2025, forthcoming), and compiler of the Complete Works of Lincoln Silva (Arandurã, 2021). His current research focuses on the trajectories of Paraguayan historians under the Stroessner regime and the circulation of national catholic Hispanism within that historiographical field.
