Chemiluminescence from Hydrogen-Methane Laminar Premixed Flames: Experiments and Numerical Comparison

Abstract

In this study, the chemiluminescence signals from laminar premixed hydrogen blended methane/air flames are analyzed. The variations of OH* and CH* emissions are measured from both a laminar flat flame and a conical flame burner. Measurements are compared to trends from numerical simulations using different sub-mechanisms for the chemiluminescent species. The results show that with increasing H2 premixture, there is a reduction in chemiluminescent markers, which is corroborated by the numerical models. The study highlights the need to develop mechanisms that can capture both the trends and absolute emissions of the chemiluminescent markers for H2 blended fuels.
