Sulfamethoxazole Retention in River Sediments under Variable Hydrodynamic Conditions

Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) retention in river sediments was investigated through batch and flume experiments. Adsorption was controlled by sorption-site accessibility rather than bulk sediment properties alone. Moderate flow enhanced retention, whereas higher velocities reduced adsorption through limited residence time and hydrodynamic flushing.
