Los espectáculos agonísticos en el occidente del Imperio romano

Los datos epigráficos y arqueológicos indican que los espectáculos agonísticos no fueron durante el Principado inhabituales en la parte occidental del Imperio romano, en particular en el África Proconsular, y en menor medida en la Galia Narbonense y en Hispania. En general, los juegos eran organizados a expensas de aristócratas locales, y para su celebración no se construyeron estadios, más propios de las regiones orientales del Mediterráneo.
