Abstract

Carmelo Bene's work also includes a set of films made between 1968 and 1973 in which the Italian actor faces the problem of representation far from the stage. The way in which Bene disassembles the representation by altering the photographic reliability of the film, editing blind gazes or preventing images from becoming a visual or narrative totality, leads his cinema to the limit of illegibility and allows us to consider it as a writing without reading or as an experience of illegibility in art (Blesa, 2011).
