Abstract

Humorous neologisms are very frequent in baroque literary texts. In the article such neologisms are studied, differentiating them from those others in which the normative break gives rise to comic effects. The treatment that cognitive semantics makes of the composition and derivation procedures is studied. The formation of humorous neologisms is presented as a combination of attributes from categories belonging to incompatible conceptual frameworks. Also neologisms are examined in which metaphorical and equivocal bases are implicated. Finally, it is explained that the processes defined by cognitive semantics are parallel to those assumed in the baroque notion of concept.
