Resumen
La celebración de la identidad cívica en la antigua Roma, como en otros contextos culturales, se llevaba a cabo a través de rituales espectaculares que servían para definir los lugares de memoria y para enfatizar los significados compartidos por la comunidad, al tiempo que constituían ocasiones especiales en la manifestación del poder y la colaboración entre los diversos agentes y su audiencia. Las procesiones, además de reforzar las jerarquías sociales, posibilitaban de forma inmejorable la activación de las experiencias sensoriales de los participantes. En este trabajo se analizan dos variantes rituales espectaculares de gran importancia en la vida de la Vrbs: las ceremonias del triunfo y la pompa circensis por un lado, y, por otro, la pompa funebris y otras ceremonias de ritualidad efímera y de gran intensidad emocional.
Abstract
The celebration of civic identity in ancient Rome, as in other cultural contexts, took place in spectacular rituals that served to define places of memory and to emphasise the shared meanings of the community, while constituting special occasions for the manifestation of power and collaboration between the various actors and their audience. Processions, besides reinforcing social hierarchies, were an excellent way of activating the sensory experiences of the participants. The focus of this work is on two spectacular ritual variants of great importance in the life of the Vrbs: the triumphal ceremonies and the pompa circensis on the one hand, and the pompa funebris and other ceremonies of ephemeral rituality and great emotional intensity on the other.
