Abstract

The combination of experiments in microfluidic devices with artificial intelligence techniques makes it possible to study complex cellular phenomena that are difficult to face with traditional methods. In this work, physically-guided neural networks are used to explain cellular metabolic changes and predict the behavior of glioblastoma cultures in response to variable stimuli, taking the first steps towards personalized in silico medicine.

Author Biography

Jacobo Ayensa-Jiménez, Tissue MicroEnvironment (TME) - I3A

Jacobo Ayensa Jiménez is a Ph.D. student at the Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Zaragoza, Spain, focused on mathematical modelling of tumour microenvironements from a Data Science point of view.

He received his M.Sc. in mathematics and M.Eng. in Civil Engineering at the CFIS center, in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia; whose studies are considered to be the most technically demanding in Spain.  J. Ayensa began his professional career in the research department of Abengoa (Abengoa Research) working on the uncertainty incorporation in mechanical system designs, such as CSPP troughs and heliostats, while attending a M.Eng. in Advanced Design in Mechanical Engineering in the University of Seville. Later, he moved to the academic world for starting his ph.D. at the Aragon Institut of Engineering Research. During his ph.D program, he has participated in Data Science projects in collaboration with the Aragon Institute of Technology and in international Data Science competitions, achieving outstanding results (top 2%).
