Aproximación sintáctica a los términos de polaridad negativa en inglés

Los ítems de polaridad negativa son aquellos elementos léxicos y expresiones que sólo se autorizan en contextos no asertivos (por ejemplo, any, ever, in years, lift a finger...). El propósito de este trabajo es explorar las condiciones estructurales que regulan su aparición en la oración.
Tras revisar algunas de las propuestas que sobre la cuestión se han hecho desde el enfoque generativista, nos centramos en el papel que desempeñan las llamadas categorías funcionales, en particular la negación, los complementizadores o subordinadores y ciertos cuantificadores y palabras de grado. Concluimos que los elementos de polaridad negativa deben expandirse bajo el mando categorial de un constituyente no asertivo, y que esta relación estructural tiene que estar mediada por una categoría funcional.
