Este ensayo cuestiona las lecturas tradicionales de Dylan Thomas. En lugar de considerar a Thomas como un romántico regional, un bárdico ajeno al modernismo y a lo audenesco, se centra en los elementos modernistas y particularmente surrealistas de su obra. Analiza en detalle una serie de poemas que tratan de las limitaciones de la representación y el lenguaje para sugerir que Thomas puede leerse de un modo más complejo que hasta ahora. Pide que se reconozca el surrealismo como una respuesta estética politizada a las crisis de la época, y reclama un replanteamiento de la obra de Dylan Thomas a la luz de las respuestas teóricas más recientes que han surgido desde su muerte.
