La trama básica de The Draughtsman's Contract, de Peter Greenaway, no es ni más ni menos que un asesinato ingeniosamente planeado y sus dramáticas consecuencias para un artista invitado. Sin embargo, las vistas de la casa y la propiedad del Sr. Herbert, que el dibujante recibe el encargo de reproducir en papel, no sirven simplemente como escenario de fondo para la historia.
