Revisiting South African History: Multiple perspectives in the novels of Nadine Gordimer

Resumen

La perspectiva narrativa es un prisma especialmente pertinente a través del cual pueden contemplarse las relaciones entre literatura e historia. Las novelas de Nadine Gordimer se han analizado a menudo como artefactos históricos que permiten comprender las situaciones históricas sudafricanas y a los protagonistas del drama. Este artículo sugiere que un estudio narratológico del punto de vista y el examen de las diversas perspectivas en las diferentes novelas arroja luz sobre la comprensión de los conflictos que se promulgan en su ficción. La flexibilidad en su manipulación del punto de vista se observa en particular en cuatro novelas: A Guest of Honour (1971), The Conservationist (1974), Burger's Daughter (1979) y My Son's Story (1991). Sus novelas plantean así de forma aguda la cuestión de la historia de quién será contada y quién la contará. La multiplicidad de voces y los correspondientes cambios de focalización evidentes en sus novelas permiten explorar la naturaleza tanto del acto creativo como de la conexión entre lo personal y lo político.
