Resumen

En los últimos trabajos sobre comunicación interpersonal, se da por sentado que un oyente sincero intenta cooperar con un hablante para interpretar la importancia semántica y pragmática de lo que éste dice. Sin embargo, a veces conviene más a los propósitos del oyente ignorar las intenciones del hablante y buscar otra interpretación, siempre que esté justificada de algún modo por el significado literal del propio enunciado. Se sugiere que este tipo de comportamiento hostil o poco cooperativo es análogo por parte del Oyente a mentir por parte del Hablante, aunque su motivación no siempre sea maliciosa o negativa.
