Abstract

Como es por todos conocido, los programas de recuperación intensificada ERAS fueron descritos inicialmente en cirugía colorrectal electiva por Kehlet et al.1, objetivándose claros beneficios en lo referente a morbimortalidad perioperatoria, reducción de la estancia hospitalaria, costes sanitarios y con un claro impacto positivo en la satisfacción de los pacientes.2  Este tipo de programas constituyen un enfoque multidisciplinar de todas las fases del perioperatorio para el cuidado del paciente.

Con el paso de los años, estas protocolizaciones tipo ERAS se han ido adoptando en diferentes especialidades quirúrgicas para cirugía electiva3 y, aunque algunos grupos han sugerido una inclusión global de pacientes y patologías en estos programas, a menudo, éstos definen excepciones, siendo el factor excluyente por antonomasia la presentación clínica urgente4, lo que ha generado un considerable retraso en la implementación de programas ERAS en este tipo de cirugías.
