Australian professor John Finnis is one of the leading figures of contemporary iusnaturalism, as well as the most prominent representative of the New Natural Law Theory. His legal philosophy explores the moral authority and function of law based on the practical reasoning of those subject to it and on those human goods which Finnis identifies as basic. Moreover, he addresses the enduring problem of unjust laws and the definition of the concept of law. This paper aims to provide a general introduction to his thought, along with some critical reflections on his legal theory.
