Abstract

The objective of the research is to develop a cartography of biogeomorphological units of the Chiriquí mangrove on the Pacific coast of Panama. For its accomplishment, field work has been developed to support the photointerpretation of aerial photos, and classification of satellite images, the results of which have been presented in cartography supported by a Geographic Information System. As a result, a cartography has been developed with a legend of 14 biogeomorphological units, in which a relationship is established between the plant formations and their geomorphological position in the slikkes and schorre formed by the tidal flow. The evolution during the Holocene of the Chiriquí mangrove has given rise to different biogeomorphological units depending on the natural dynamics of the mangrove.
