Snow avalanches, represent a significant risk in mountainous environments with high tourist influx, such as Sierra Nevada (Spain). This study develops a methodology based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and multi-criteria analysis to identify areas susceptible to avalanche triggering. Key variables such as altitude, slope, land cover, morphology, and accumulation zones were analysed to generate susceptibility maps classified into four levels. The results reveal that areas with the highest susceptibility are concentrated on the slopes of major peaks and regions with intense recreational activity associated with winter sports. This work provides a novel contribution to avalanche knowledge in Sierra Nevada and constitutes a key tool for land management and natural hazard risk reduction.
