The First Territory and City Conference Series was established with the aim of fostering discussion on major urban and territorial challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective. Under the theme ‘Rethinking the Territory, Redesigning the City’, the series brought together, during February and March 2025, leading experts in geography and urban studies to address central issues on the contemporary agenda.
Jorge Olcina examined territorial adaptation to environmental risks, emphasizing the need for comprehensive climate planning; Sara Protasoni advocated the incorporation of hybrid ecological approaches to conceptualize and manage peri-urban landscapes; Ricardo Méndez analyzed the structural roots of the housing crisis and proposed several lines of action; and María Buhigas highlighted the transformative potential of local action, illustrated through Barcelona’s municipal environmental adaptation program.
The series created a space for training and public debate, with a clear commitment to extending its impact beyond the event itself through the development of a documentary repository intended to help build a shared territorial culture within the University of Zaragoza.
