Abstract

Abstract

This work studies the possible previous versions, now lost, of the Segunda leyenda de Ávila, conserved in a late version from about 1600. It establishes, in the first place, the existence of a previous version, written in the 15th Century, that did not have used the Crónica de la población de Ávila as a source. But mainly, it aims to evaluate the copy’s colophon that declares to have an original testimony from the beginnings of the 14th Century, leading to the conclusion, based on different facts, that it cannot be read as anything different than a falsification.
