• Published No.48 Acciones e Investigaciones Sociales (AIS). 2026. Special issue: The Transformation of Social Services in Comparative Perspective: Trends and Reform Strategies in Response to Emerging Social Risks

  2026-06-16

The Welfare State has historically served, and continues to serve, as a foundational framework for the construction and articulation of protective “meshes” and “networks” designed to uphold the rights associated with citizenship. These rights are rooted in the principles of the social state, anchored in its fundamental pillars, in social policy interventions, and in systems of social protection which aim not merely to secure minimum standards, but to provide the necessary foundations for human development and social well-being.

In this context, the social services system is undergoing a series of reform processes which, nonetheless, are highly heterogeneous in terms of strategic orientation, intensity, and resource allocation, largely as a result of the system's strong decentralisation. This special issue aims to present an analytical and critical perspective on the transformative potential of these reform initiatives, drawing from diverse territorial experiences. The objective is to assess the system’s capacity to address the aforementioned social risks and to identify potential pathways for advancing the broader national-level reflection and policy revision process.

• Extension of the deadline for abstract submission – Special issue 52 AIS: "Past, present and future of Social Work: a profession at the crossroads"

  2026-06-09

This special issue aims to promote debate around 21st-century Social Work, drawing inspiration from the experience of the Island Wood Group in the United States which—as Marilyn Flynn notes in the prologue to Brekke & Anastas's book (2019)—was established as the ideal venue for "testing the ideas that guide 21st-century Social Work thinking." The purpose is to foster that same atmosphere of constructive dialogue and critical thinking that characterized that initiative: encouraging divergent opinions within a framework of intellectual tolerance, openness to multiple disciplinary traditions, attention to theoretical foundations and their practical applications, as well as a sense of shared responsibility for building the future of the profession.

• Cancellation AIS Special Issue: "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Business"

  2026-02-03

The Editorial Board of the journal Acciones e Investigaciones Sociales would like to inform authors and readers, with the utmost respect and appreciation, of the cancellation of the special issue entitled “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Companies and Organizations”.

The deadline for manuscript submission for this special issue closed on January 31, 2026. After the completion of the evaluation process and careful consideration of the submitted manuscripts, the Editorial Board has concluded that the number and quality of the eligible papers do not allow the academic and scientific standards required for a monographic issue to be sufficiently guaranteed. For this reason, and not without regret, the decision has been made to cancel the special issue.
