Definite Article Use in the Interlanguage of Spanish Speakers: A Multidimensional Problem

Resumen

Este artículo pretende estudiar la relación entre las diferentes formas de uso del artículo definido en español e inglés y su influencia inherente en el proceso adquisitivo de los estudiantes españoles de inglés. Se realizó un estudio con tres grupos de diez estudiantes de inglés de nivel intermedio, más un grupo de nivel avanzado, todos ellos hablantes nativos de español. El estudio consistió en tres tipos diferentes de ejercicios que comprendían traducción, rellenar huecos y una tarea de either/or. Los resultados mostraron que la transferencia desde la lengua materna era la principal causa de interferencia en la interlengua de los alumnos. Debido a las diferencias gramaticales entre las dos lenguas, la sobregeneralización, la omisión y el uso excesivo aparecen para compensar la falta de conocimientos en la segunda lengua, lo que sugiere que el Principio de Efectos Múltiples también podría estar influyendo. Como consecuencia de todos los procesos mencionados, la interlengua (en adelante, IL) tenderá a fosilizarse en construcciones no estándar en las que no debería utilizarse el artículo definido en inglés.
