Abstract

This article seeks to investigate the frontier between the countryside and the city, which is a classic spatial dichotomy in western literature. In this sense, the industrial town is proposed as a hybrid space where different spatial characteristics and sociopolitical contexts converge, breaking with the binary scheme and making it more complex. Through the region of Debabarrena and its representation in the novel Jenisjoplin, we will investigate the hybrid urban typology, and the relationship it has had with deindustrialization, undeground culture and the national and class identity of its inhabitants.
