Abstract

Cuentos de Barro (1933), written by the Salvadoran author Salvador Salazar Arrué, is one of the most important literary works in 20th century Central American literature. This article analyzes Cuentos de Barro from a new perspective with the aim of underlining the possible influence of the poetic work Romancero gitano (1928), written by the famous Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, on the origin of Cuentos de Barro, which has gone unnoticed until now. The comparative method will offer an original reading of Salarrué’s work, which will help us better understand this text and allow us to set it in the literary tradition to which it belongs.
