Abstract

In this work an attempt has been made to relate the fundamentals of philology to the pluralism that predominates in the criticism and the theory of the last 20 years, and to rebut the attempts to discredit "literary reception" which from the position of a certain neo-Romantic idealism, rejects a supposedly "post-structuralist and pragmatic scepticism" as being responsible for relativizing the meaning of the work to the point of annihilating it.

In this paper a contrary position is defended in favour of the pluralist virtuality of the attitude (or rather, the school) of reception which is not seen as excluding the point of view of the author or of the text, but as propitiating a reunion (advocated by George Steiner and Paul de Man. among others) of the theoreticians and the literary texts through reading.
