Abstract

I study the process of the cinematographic adaptation of the stage play Cobardías (1919), by Linares Rivas; whose result was Um homem às direitas (1945), directed by Jorge Brum do Canto. Attending to their respective historical contexts, I conclude that the film collects only the moralizing criticism presented in the play in favor of reproducing some of the ideals of the Portuguese New State
