Abstract

From a spatial perspective we aim to analyze the construction of female identity in Spain  at the end of the Second Republic and the beginning of Francoism in the present work. The basis of this analysis will be two representative novels of the time, both written by women: Nada by Carmen Laforet and La Plaza del Diamante by Mercè Rodoreda. Starting from the identity crisis that the protagonists face in the repressive environment of the domestic space, we focus on the learning journey they undertake in the urban space for searching the freedom and autonomy, and we expose the reconstruction of their identity through of various resources in the psychological space. With this tour, we will reveal the difficult situation of women in an exclusively male power environment characteristic of Francoism, and analyze the different strategies of construction of female identity through interaction, integration and reconversion in the social space.
