Abstract

The poetic work of Leopoldo Panero is never going to place him among the ten best poets of the Castilian language, but it must be included among the best of 1936, deserving as it does to be compared with Miguel Hernández, Luis Rosales, Dionisio Ridruejo, José María Valverde y Luis Felipe Vivanco.
Panero knew how to capture what is essential in the human soul in a unique way, and make of the poem a place, a "stanza" for talking to God. This capability to investigate the poetic experience closely, to make it untransferably his, is what most makes him exceptional within his own time or in many times combined.
