Las ayudas públicas constituyen uno de los instrumentos económicos de política ambiental más ampliamente utilizado, a la vez que, cuestionado por su inadecuación al principio de quien contamina paga. En este sentido, a nivel comunitario, se establecen los criterios bajo los que las ayudas respetarán este principio. Por último, se analiza el caso particular de las ayudas en la gestión de residuos.
