• Active tourism or adventure tourism companies are currently governed by legal regulations responding to customers’ demands for quality and safety. The author, who has participated throughout this entire period in the discussions revolving around the main purpose of the regulations, now offers guidelines for drawing up standard rules, both in the autonomous regions in Spain where regulation is either poor or totally lacking, and also in countries where regulation is only in its initial stages. Proposals are put forward concerning contracts, customer information, inscription in a register, safety, liability, insurance, qualifications of the workers, endorsement of equipment, respect for the environment, etc.
