Fondos fotográficos en la Hispanic Society of America. La exposición Viaje de ida y vuelta

Resumen
El objetivo de este artículo es la presentación y análisis de uno de los fondos fotográficos más importantes sobre España y Latinoamérica, existentes fuera del país de origen: la colección creada en el seno de la Hispanic Society of America (New York), institución fundada en 1904 por el hispanófilo Archer M. Huntington. En este trabajo se profundiza en los objetivos y sentido de las imágenes, así como las posibilidades que esta colección brinda desde el punto de vista de la investigación del patrimonio cultural y de la propia historia de la fotografía. Como muestra de las posibilidades que ofrece este conjunto de fotografías, tomamos como referencia la exposición Viaje de ida y vuelta. Fotografía de Castilla-La Mancha en The Hispanic Society of America desarrollada por The Hispanic Society and el Centro de Estudios de Castilla-La Mancha en el marco de la investigación sobre las imágenes de la región.
Abstract
The aim of this article is the analysis of one of the most important photographic collections of Spain and Latin America, existing outside their country of origin, that located in the Hispanic Society of America (New York), an institution founded in 1904 by the Hispanist Archer M. Hun-tington. This work examines in depth the aims and meaning of these historical images, as well as the possibilities that this collection offers for the research of cultural heritage and of the history of photography itself. As an example of what these photographs offer, we have selected the exhibition Viaje de Ida y Vuelta Fotografías de Castilla La Mancha (Round Trip Photographs of Castilla La Mancha in the Hispanic Society of America) developed by the Hispanic Society and the Center of Studies of Castilla-La Mancha in the framework of the research project on the images of this region.
