Author Guidelines

ARTICLES

Articles submitted to the "Articles" section of Geographicalia must meet the following criteria:

  • Articles must be original and unpublished and comply with the journal's standards and content.
    • Geographicalia publishes theoretical and applied research on the various fields of geography, thematic cartography, and related sciences.
    • The publications aim to raise awareness and provide solutions to the main global challenges and issues affecting geographic science and territorial and environmental planning.
  • All contributions will be peer-reviewed by at least two anonymous external reviewers who are specialists in the field. Based on these evaluations, the Editorial Board will decide whether to approve or reject the article, as well as the publication issue.
  • Articles must be between 5,000 and 7,500 words (excluding abstract and bibliographic references) and may be submitted in Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese.

MAPS

Articles submitted to the "Maps" section of Geographicalia meet the following requirements:

  • The objective of the article submitted to "Maps" is to explain the technical development of a map, accompanied by a geographic interpretation of the problem or phenomenon represented.
  • The "Maps" section has the same scientific value and rigor as the "Articles" section of Geographicalia. Therefore, all contributions must be original and unpublished and will be peer-reviewed by reviewers with experience in cartography, ensuring the cartographic quality of the publications.
  • The article must be between 2,000 and 5,000 words (excluding abstract and bibliographic references) and may be submitted in Spanish, English, French, or Portuguese.

RESEARCH NOTES AND REVIEWS

Papers submitted to the "Research Notes and Reviews" section must be original and unpublished and comply with the journal's standards and content. They must meet the following criteria:

  • Research Notes primarily refer to summaries and commentaries on recent and innovative research or scientific transfer projects or papers. They must be accompanied by a brief summary of no more than 150 words.
  • Reviews are for previously published works published no more than two years after the date of publication in the journal. The review must be accompanied by a brief biography of the reviewing author, which must not exceed 150 words.

Both notes and reviews must be between 1,000 and 3,000 words (excluding abstracts and bibliographical references, if applicable).

EDITORIAL

Additionally, each issue will include an "Editorial" section, the purpose of which is to introduce and reflect on the content of the published issue. Unlike the other sections of the journal, these are personal submissions requested from authors upon request by the Geographicalia editorial team.

Works submitted to the "Editorial" section of Geographicalia must meet the requirements outlined in the following template:

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • El manuscrito no ha sido publicado previamente ni está siendo sometido a consideración por otra revista (o se ha proporcionado una explicación al respecto en el envío).
  • Siempre que sea posible, se proporcionan el doi y las direcciones URL para las referencias bibliográficas.
  • Todas las figuras y las tablas se encuentran colocadas en el lugar del texto correspondiente (no al final) y cuentan con encabezamiento y fuente.
  • Las referencias bibliográficas siguen la norma APA.
  • Al final del texto se indican, si procede,  tanto las fuentes de financiación de la investigación, como cualquier conflicto de intereses existente o potencial. 
  • El archivo de envío está en formato docx y se ajusta a los requisitos bibliográficos, estilísticos y ortotipográficos especificados directrices para autoras/es.
