Abstract

This article analyzes the prevalence of tragic concepts from Greek classical literature in two works by Miguel de Unamuno; namely, Amor y Pedagogía (1902) and Abel Sánchez (1917). For that purpose, the narrative structure of both novels and the thematic connections between them are examined. In addition, it is defined the cathartic intention within this author creates and directs these works to his readers, always under the philosophical reflection of the contradiction in the human being of the forces of passion and rationality. On top of that, the possible Platonic influence on Unamuno's use of the daimon as a Greco-Latin tópos is also addressed.
