Abstract

Every time of crisis is accompanied by a movement of regeneration. Ruben Dario and Albert Camus present the solar lands and the midday sun as images of vitality for the individual with a regenerative function for society.  They are linked to the cultural legacy of the Mediterranean and Spain and have the function of revitalizing a tired Europe and a Latin America threatened by the military power of the North. The midnight sun is configured as the counter image, wrapped in a symbolic anti-Mediterranean halo. It represents the Anglo-Saxon civilization and the “German dreams”. The solar images configure two civilizations in continuous tension and antithesis.
