Abstract

Pedro Vicente is one of the leading voices of photographic thought and practice in Spain. His long-term teaching experience, in Spain and the United Kingdom, and his extensive curatorial work serve as support for the conversation held with the editors of this issue of ZARCH to delve into the role of contemporary visual culture under the research scope.

Author Biographies

Iñaki Bergera, Universidad de Zaragoza

Iñaki Bergera is Full Professor of Architectural Design at the University of Zaragoza, having also taught at the University of Navarra and the European University of Madrid. He holds a degree in Architecture and a PhD from the University of Navarra (1997 and 2002), and granted by Fundación la Caixa, he graduated with distinction in the Master in Design Studies from Harvard University (2002). His professional work in architecture has received important awards (Saloni, Chicago Atheneum, FAD, COAVN, etc.). During his wide and award-winning research career in the field of the relationships between photography, architecture and territory, he has written numerous papers, and published and edited more than 20 books. His personal artistic work on the same topics has been published (La Fábrica, Turner…) and exhibited individually and collectively.

Javier de Esteban, Universidad de Zaragoza

Javier de Esteban is Associate Lecturer of Architectural Design at the University of Zaragoza, having also taught at ETSA of Madrid and Valladolid. He holds a PhD in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (2016), Master in Advanced Architectural Design from the UPM (2011) and a degree in Architecture from the University of Navarra (2009). He is a member of the research group Paisajes Urbanos y Proyecto Contemporáneo (UNIZAR), previously a researcher at the University of Cambridge and in the groups Teoría y Crítica de la Arquitectura Moderna y Contemporánea and Vivienda Colectiva at the UPM. His research work focuses on the relationship between contemporary architecture and culture, including the book “Review of modernity in British architecture” (Finalist in COAVN 2022 awards) and several articles in international indexed journals (ETF VII, ARTS, RA, ZARCH, En BLANCO, CPA, etc.). Founder of the architecture studio JDEA, whose work has been awarded and exhibited nationally and internationally.
